Anne-Sophie Novel, who holds a Ph.D. in economics from Sciences Po, decided early on to apply her expertise to environmental and social issues. After founding Écolo-Info in 2007, she became a freelance journalist, author, and filmmaker.
She takes a discerning look at the media and its coverage of environmental issues, while also exploring our connection to the natural world and ways to move forward differently. Her two most recent books, *Mieux s’informer* (Actes Sud, 2023) and *L’enquête sauvage: pourquoi et comment renouer avec le vivant?* (La Salamandre, 2022), are testament to this.
As part of the “2040: I’m Going!” conference, Anne-Sophie Novel will begin by discussing our connection to the natural world. She will take us on a journey to broaden and shift our perspective, using concrete examples to help us “rewild” our lifestyles.
She will then address the issue of “information ecology”: How can we produce a different kind of information on ecology and the transition? How can we select and use information that fosters a calm public debate and encourages action? She will provide an overview of how environmental issues are currently covered in the media, before discussing solutions journalism—an approach that complements traditional investigative journalism by rigorously documenting solutions to problems and the conditions under which they can be replicated. By drawing on this “grammar of the possible,” she will show us how to report differently, combining clarity with a willingness to take action.
Anne Sophie-Novel also wrote and directed the documentary *Les Médias, le Monde et Moi* (2019), with Flo Laval, contributed to the film *2050, planète invivable ?* (2021), and went on to write *Nature, for a Reconciliation* with Yann Arthus-Bertrand (2025).
Finally, in 2025, she developed a 9-hour course on the topic “Media Narratives and Ecology” for the leading platform Sator.
