The year is 2040. It’s market day in Orzens… This small village near Yverdon-les-Bains has recently refurbished its historic kiln and is home to a host of craftsmen in addition to the village’s market gardeners and farmers.
It’s an atmosphere that reflects the revitalization of rural villages that began several years ago, following farmers’ discontent in the 2020s with the system of direct payments, federal agricultural subsidies and opaque retail margins. This development has also been facilitated by soaring energy prices in the 2030s. A shift has taken place, bringing more labor to the fields and more consumers to the markets.
In this special program “2040 j’y suis!”, journalist Noémie Desarzens lets you hear and imagine the agriculture of 2040 in the company of Jean-Yves Billaud, who represents the4th generation of farmers in his family. A farmer whose curiosity and desire to innovate reflect a different way of cultivating the land.
In this special program, you’ll also hear from:
– Aurélien Rollaz, winemaker and member of the Young Farmers of Vaud committee
– Blaise Hoffmann, winemaker and writer, author of the book “Faire paysan”.
– Pascal Olivier, director of BioSuisse’s French-speaking branch.
Interview: Noémie Desarzens
